Leadership Development

 

Leadership Development Academy (LDA)
This program is only for non-supervisory employees. LDA is designed for employees who are interested in pursuing leadership positions and gives them a unique opportunity to participate in a 9 month-long educational experience that focuses on best practices in leadership. LDA is a cohort-based program with a total of 24 participants in each cohort. The program runs each year from September to May and is a mix of e-learning and Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT). In addition, each group (3-5 participants) will identify a real work-related problem, challenge, or opportunity and will develop a proposed solution, intervention, or improvement.  The group will present their findings and recommendations to a Leadership Committee and other invitees upon the conclusion of the program.

LEAD (Leadership Education and Development Program)
This program is only for supervisors and employees in leadership roles with direct reports. This is a required program and incorporates various resources to support leadership development. This program is offered as an Online Learning experience, combining VILT (Virtual Instructor-Led Training) with e-learning modules. There is a total of 11 modules.

Employee Engagement
This program is only for supervisors and employees in leadership roles with direct reports. This two-part VILT (Virtual Instructor-Led Training) is a required program. This program provides leaders with the understanding and importance of employee engagement, and help them understand how human nature and social interaction impact engagement, while providing the tools and strategies to drive high levels of employee communication and engagement.  Participants will practice using role plays, case studies and other experiential activities.  They will also self-reflect and create an action plan to implement successful strategies.

Communication
Communication courses designed to address the specific needs of Stony Brook Medicine employees.  These courses will support developing and expanding the communication skills of all employees, regardless of their role at Stony Brook Medicine.

Regulatory & Compliance Education

 

New Employee Orientation (NEO)*
TDLC facilitates the 2-day hospital NEO. This is designed to make the new hires feel welcomed to the organization and also provides regulatory and compliance education required by the Joint Commission (TJC). This is a required education.
* NEO is separate from Departmental Orientation

Annual Required Education (ARE)
TJC standards require that all employees receive education on selected regulatory & compliance topics annually. The Annual Required Education (ARE) is designed to provide this information. This is a required education.
